If you choose to connect a brokerage account, authentication is handled in the secure environment of SnapTrade, Plaid, or your brokerage. Your login credentials go directly to the connection provider and brokerage and are not transmitted to Coattail.
After you authorize a connection, Coattail receives provider identifiers and server-side credentials needed to retrieve the accounts, balances, holdings, connection health, and related data you authorized. These credentials:
SnapTrade connections request trading access where supported. If you explicitly confirm an order in Coattail, we transmit the order instruction and related account, security, quantity, order-type, and time-in-force information to SnapTrade and your brokerage. We store order previews and status records, which may include provider and brokerage order identifiers, estimates, timestamps, statuses, and error details, to operate Order History, prevent duplicate submission, support users, and maintain security and audit records. Plaid connections are read-only.
Coattail does not hold or move your money or securities and does not execute, clear, or custody trades. Your brokerage controls account permissions, acceptance, execution, clearing, settlement, and custody.
Brokerage information is used to provide requested portfolio, intelligence, connection, and trading features. It is not sold or used for third-party advertising.
When you disconnect a brokerage account: Coattail revokes or deletes the applicable provider connection and removes current synced account and holdings data from active use. Limited security, audit, order, and legal records may be retained where reasonably necessary or required by law.
Certain features — including personalized AI-generated insights and portfolio summaries — are powered by OpenAI's API. To generate these features, relevant data (such as tickers from your connected holdings, publicly available trade signals, and aggregated market intelligence) is transmitted to OpenAI for processing.
This data transmission is governed by OpenAI's API data usage policies. OpenAI does not use API-submitted data to train its models by default. No raw personal identifiers (name, email, or full account details) are sent to OpenAI — only the financial signals necessary to generate your personalized content.
You may use Coattail without connecting a brokerage account. Some intelligence features may use automated or AI-generated processing and can contain errors, omissions, or mischaracterizations.
If you subscribe to Coattail Pro, payment is processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), depending on your device. Coattail does not receive, store, or process your payment card information.
Subscription status and transaction history are managed through RevenueCat, a subscription management platform. RevenueCat receives your device identifier, purchase receipt, and subscription status to validate your entitlements. RevenueCat's privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy.
We share your information only with the following categories of recipients, all of whom are contractually bound to protect your data:
We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to provide the Service and fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or to resolve disputes.
When you disconnect a brokerage, we revoke or delete the applicable active provider connection and remove current synced account and holdings data from active use. Order, security, audit, fraud-prevention, support, and legal records may be retained for a limited period where reasonably necessary or required by law.
Push notification tokens are deleted immediately upon account deletion or when you disable notifications.
Analytics data held by Amplitude and crash data held by Sentry are subject to those providers' own retention policies.
We implement safeguards including TLS encryption in transit, platform encryption at rest, row-level authorization, and service-role-only access to sensitive brokerage credentials. Provider credentials are protected on backend systems and are not exposed through client-readable database access.
No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Data Breach Notification: In the event of a security breach that affects your personal information, we will notify affected users by email and/or in-app notification as soon as reasonably practicable and within the timeframes required by applicable law (including within 72 hours where required by GDPR). We will also notify relevant supervisory authorities as required.
The Service may contain links to third-party websites, brokerage platforms, SEC filing systems, or other external resources. This Privacy Policy applies only to Coattail. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of any third-party site or service, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.
The Service is not directed to individuals under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 18. If you believe we have done so inadvertently, contact [email protected] and we will promptly delete the information.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy in the app with a revised effective date, and where required by law, by seeking your consent before the changes take effect.
Nothing on Coattail — including trade data, Coattail Scores, AI-generated summaries, signals, alerts, watchlists, or any other content — constitutes financial advice, investment advice, trading advice, legal advice, tax advice, or any other form of professional advice. All information is provided solely for informational and educational purposes. You should not make any investment decision based solely on information provided by the Service. No content on the Service should be construed as a solicitation or offer to buy or sell any security or financial instrument.
Historical performance data displayed for any tracked investor — including win rates, returns, or Coattail Scores — is based solely on publicly disclosed transactions and is provided for informational purposes only. Past performance does not guarantee, predict, or imply future results. Investment returns and principal value will fluctuate, and an investor's actual results may differ materially from historical performance.
Information displayed on Coattail is sourced from public government disclosures, SEC filings, regulatory databases, and licensed third-party data providers. While we make reasonable efforts to present data accurately, we cannot guarantee the completeness, accuracy, timeliness, or fitness for any particular purpose of any data presented. Public filings may contain errors, omissions, or delays introduced by the filing party. Coattail is not responsible for inaccuracies in source data.
Information relating to politicians, corporate insiders, hedge funds, and other investors displayed within the Service is derived from publicly available filings and disclosures and may contain delays, omissions, or inaccuracies inherent to those source systems. Coattail does not independently verify the contents of any filing and is not responsible for errors introduced by the filing party or the disclosure system.
Real-time and historical market data is provided by third-party data providers and may be subject to delay. Market data displayed within the Service may be delayed and is subject to licensing restrictions imposed by third-party data providers. Market data is provided for informational purposes only and does not constitute a basis for trading decisions. Coattail makes no representation that prices or data are accurate, complete, or current.
Public disclosures displayed within the Service may not reflect an investor's current holdings, as many disclosure systems permit delayed reporting and may not capture subsequent purchases, sales, or changes in position.
